Faults this service can investigate

Fault finding can help with recurring RCD or circuit-breaker trips, a circuit that has stopped working, flickering lights, hot or damaged accessories, intermittent power and faults that appear when particular equipment is used. If there is smoke, a burning smell, exposed live parts or evidence of electric shock, stop using the affected equipment and isolate it if this can be done safely.

A structured diagnostic process

The visit starts with the fault history and any recent changes. Visual checks and appropriate electrical tests are then used to narrow the problem from the supply or protective device to a circuit, accessory, cable or connected item. Testing is selected for the installation and carried out with safe isolation wherever practicable.

Intermittent faults and access limitations

Some faults only occur under particular loads, weather conditions or after equipment has been running. The first visit may identify the likely area without reproducing the fault. Access restrictions, concealed wiring and equipment that cannot be safely isolated are explained, together with the most useful next step.

Repair, make safe or provide a clear next step

Where a straightforward repair is possible and agreed, it may be completed during the visit. More involved work is scoped separately. If the cause cannot be confirmed in the available time, you will still receive a clear explanation of what has been ruled out, what remains to be tested and whether any temporary isolation is necessary.

Before you arrange the work.

Why does my RCD or circuit breaker keep tripping?

Repeated tripping can be caused by a faulty appliance, damaged wiring, moisture, a circuit fault or several smaller leakage currents adding together. Resetting it repeatedly is not a diagnosis; the circuit and connected equipment need to be tested methodically.

Can every electrical fault be found in one visit?

Many faults can be identified during an initial visit, but intermittent problems, concealed damage and faults affected by weather or operating conditions can take longer. The findings and next step will be explained before further time or work is agreed.

Will the repair be completed at the same time?

A suitable minor repair may be completed if the cause is confirmed, the required part is available and you approve the work. Larger repairs or alterations are quoted separately.

What information is helpful before the visit?

Note when the fault occurs, which breaker operates, what was switched on at the time, whether it changes in wet weather and any work completed shortly before the problem began. Photographs of the consumer unit or visible damage can also help with planning.
